Two More For The Racking....

1) Joshua Frank goes off on the complete ineptitude and cravenness of the Democrats, and asks the fundamental question to rebels like Cynthia McKinney, Dennis Kucinich, and John Conyers, among others: "Why stay in a party that treats you like such dirt, and still rejects your fundamental principles?"

2) The next time a Religious Reich wingnut crosses your way about how government should reflect "biblical" theories, kindly send him this response (again from CounterPunch):

On Wednesday, March 1, 2006, at the Maryland state legislature, during a hearing in Annapolis on the proposed Constitutional Amendment to prohibit gay marriage, Jamie Raskin, professor of law at American University, was requested to testify.

At the end of his testimony, Republican state senator Nancy Jacobs said: "Mr. Raskin, my Bible says marriage is only between a man and a woman. What do you have to say about that?"

Raskin replied: "Senator, when you took your oath of office, you placed
your hand on the Bible and swore to uphold the Constitution. You did not place your hand on the Constitution and swear to uphold the Bible."

The room erupted into applause.

Footnote: Raskin is running for the Maryland state senate. His site is http://www.raskin06.com

A bit more of that would be nice, too.

Longish-time lurker. Hi.

I've been meaning to follow-up on Raskin for a while because I hadn't heard of him until the Jacobs incident, even though he's running a couple districts over. Good district to run in, lot of pull, though not very indicative of where the rest of the state will go. Anyway, here's to a good run.

Hi Jean...couldn't be THAT long, since the blog hasn't been here for less than three months...lol ;-)

Interesting that Raskin is running for office....I assume that he's running as a Democrat, and that his district may be a tad more liberal than most in that state??? Keep me in touch on that.

:-)
